Don’t you just love the Lord’s kindness? I do! I can’t wait to tell you how he showed up yesterday.
I was out running a few errands when I found this lovely little pitcher at HomeGoods. As I went over to the cashier, cooing over my “treasure,” it seemed like the Lord was highlighting her to me. So I asked what was on his heart.
Suddenly I knew why I had gone into her store! “I’m glad I found this pitcher, but it’s such a small thing,” I said. “I think you’re grieving over something much bigger. It seems like the Lord is telling me that you’ve been praying for someone you love very much, and she is very sick. Is that right?” She stared at me wide-eyed and nodded.
“The Lord says he has heard your prayers,” I said simply. (It was what I heard in my spirit.) “He wants to remind you that you can trust in his love for you, and you can trust in his love for her.”
In her face, I could see the moment when the presence of the Lord hit her. The next thing I know, we’re hugging each other and crying.
Wasn’t that kind of the Lord? He knew what weight my new friend was carrying. He knew how much she needed a word of encouragement. He wanted her to know that she was not alone because he was with her; and he was with the person she was praying for. He paid such a high price so that he could carry our burdens, and I often sense his great desire to bring that into our reality.
I treasure moments like this. 2 Corinthians 5:20 tells us we are ambassadors for heaven. Jesus lived that way, bringing the reality of his Father’s kingdom into a hurting world around him. He invites us to do the same: to experience the reality of his kingdom and bring it to those around us.
Only he can do that! But I’m so glad he lets us be a part of it.
